Stormy Weather: Getting Prepared for the Storms to Come | It’s that time of year again... In my neck of the woods, with spring and summer come severe weather. Thunderstorms, hail, tornadoes - it can be a scary time. And on the heels of summer, we enter hurricane season. We have been very blessed to be spared from many hardships associated with crazy weather. Others aren’t so lucky. I like the idea of being prepared for severe weather, in its many forms. Preparedness is not just for people wearing tin foil hats. It’s for practical people who understand that the time to get the things you need is before a disaster strikes. A Call to Preparedness As a new blog focused on providing resources for homeschoolers, homesteaders, and those seeking faith-based guidance, I believe in the importance of being prepared for potential disasters. While I have several posts in the works about preparedness, I understand that building a comprehensive resource takes time. That’s why I want to direct you to ...

Good Experience With The Good & The Beautiful Disclaimer: I am not affiliated with The Good and The Beautiful. The following is solely my opinion and based on my experience. During the 2023-2024 school year, I had the opportunity to work as a homeschool math teacher. My brother and sister-in-law homeschool their son and daughter. When my nephew faced challenges concentrating on his math work during his 1st-grade year, I stepped in to assist during his 2nd-grade year. We met online via Google Meet Monday-Friday, focusing on his math curriculum. TGTB offers its math and language arts curriculum for FREE as PDF files online. This allowed me to work with my nephew online using the PDFs while he had a physical copy of the book to write in. The Math 2 course effectively met grade 2 standards, and my nephew enjoyed the simple games and activities presented thr...

Change of Scenery | I have often wondered what it would have been like to be born in a different time. I was born in the 1980s, but what if it had been 20, 50, or 100 years earlier? What if I had been born in the distant future? I’m sure we’ve all had similar thoughts. We daydream about how much better things could be if only (fill in the blank here) were different. I concluded, however, that I was born at precisely the right time. I suppose I could explain that God’s timing is perfect and His plans are so neatly knit together that I shouldn’t be surprised that I live at this specific time. And, of course, I believe that’s true. But I think the reason I feel perfectly suited for this day in time is nearly everything I want to attain is within reach. Technology has made it so that, on any given day, I can choose the music I listen to, the shows and movies I watch, and the recreation I want to partici...
